MATH 101 INTERNET COURSE BLACKBOARD SITE

If you are enrolled in the Math 101 internet course at Louisiana Tech University for the current quarter, you will be enrolled in Dr. Hanna's College Algebra Course on the Louisiana Tech University Blackboard site. This site will contain some of the online quizzes, e-Professor, video Lectures, additional tutoring sources, and your grades will be posted on this site. The following steps will be necessary to gain access to the Louisiana Tech University Blackboard site:

1). The Louisiana Tech Blackboard site is on the internet at blackboard.latech.edu.

2). Your login name is your Louisiana Tech issued userid. If you have not obtained yours, it can be obtained from the front desk of the Computing Center (Wyly Tower 116). The default password is set to your Louisiana Tech issued student ID number.

3. After you login, the Blackboard courses you are enrolled in will be listed. Select College Algebra and follow the instructions given from there.

Access to some of the online quizzes is located in “Assignments”.

Access to all GRADES which have been posted are located in “Tools” under “Check Grades”.

Access to e-Professor, video Lectures, and additional tutoring sources is located in "Course Documents" on the Blackboard site. You should browse through all of the items listed. Assistance specific to each section in the textbook can be accessed by clicking on the desired chapter, then the desired section within that chapter. The various sources you will find for each chapter and/or section are described briefly below.

e-Professor
e-Professor can be accessed by clicking on a specific section. e-Professor provides a very detailed audio/visual explanation of the type problem contained in each section followed by additional problems of the same type for you to practice on.

Video Lectures

Video lectures for each section can be accessed by clicking on the specific section. These video files are lectures on the step-by-step solutions to selected problems found in the exercise set at the end of the section.

The videos are provided in QuickTime format in two versions: "Small" for slower connections and "Large" for users with more bandwidth. The video files are prepared to intelligently stream, so you may begin playing them before the entire file downloads. A status bar across the bottom of the movie file will inform you as to how much of the movie has been downloaded. QuickTime provides tools for controlling the playback of these videos, including play, pause, volume control, and the ability to step forward and backward. You may also use the slider bar to move through the video.

Practice Problems
Practice Problems for each section can be accessed by clicking on the specific section. These problems can be used to practice the types of problems in each section, and an interactive step-by-step guided solution to each problem can be accessed by clicking "Guided Solution". You should find this to be very helpful tutoring on topics or specific problems for which you need additional explanation.

Chapter Test
A Chapter Test can be accessed by clicking the specific chapter. The major concepts in each chapter will be covered by the problems on the Chapter Test, but you should also look over the assigned homework problems for the class you are enrolled in to be sure you have reviewed all types of problems assigned. Unlike the Practice Problems, you will not be able to access a guided solution to each problem. When you exit the test, you will be provided with your answer and the correct answer to each problem.

For chapters in which some sections are omitted from the course syllabus, the Chapter Test will contain problems from the omitted sections. You will not be responsible for problems from the omitted sections.

Self Test
The Self Test option can be accessed under Course Documents. For the Self Test, you can choose specific sections in each chapter which you want to test yourself on. You might want to use the Self Test option for Chapters in which some of the sections are omitted from the course syllabus. The Self Test would also be a good practice test for the final exam.

In preparation for exams in the course, you should use the practice, chapter, and self test to check yourself, but also go back over the homework problems you were assigned to be sure you have checked yourself on each type problem assigned in the course.
